What to Expect
As you drive onto the peaceful street of Tukholmankatu , Meilahti neighborhood and turn right to Mäntytie, the place that houses our sanctuary will be by your left. Parking is easy to find and once you are in the door, you’ll be greeted by the warm friendly church wardens. We are a church of about 500 people from African and other backgrounds and and life experiences who gather each week to worship Jesus Christ. Jesus is the One who brought us together and is teaching us how to love Him and one another. There is child care and Children’s Church each week and a ”Tweens” class every other week where the young learn the essentials of the faith.
Fr. Leonard Wobilla Shwei is the Chaplain for the African Chaplaincy in Finland and celebrates Mass for Catholics from Africa every Sunday at 12:45 in St. Mary’s Church, Mäntytie 2, Helsinki
We begin with mass . We pray for people and their needs; if you meet the chaplain he will ask what you would like prayer for and we will pray together for your request through the mass. Fr. Leo lead us into God’s Word, the Bible, offering a message of faith and hope that provides a clear path to following Christ as our Savior and the Lord of our lives. After the service, which usually lasts about 90 minutes, there is a time for coffee and snacks. People often stay around for an hour to get to know people better and to encourage each other.
We joyfully embrace our responsibility to present the gospel message of salvation and forgiveness of our past sins. We believe everyone should have multiple opportunities to see and hear the message of God’s love because we desire to see everyone come to faith in Christ.
